Masala chai

A 'masala chai' is a chai tea with milk and a hint of spices – including cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper. It has been cherished for centuries in India as a means of improving health and enhancing peace of mind.

Cardamom is the most common ingredient, followed by some mixture of cinnamon, ginger, star anise and cloves. Pepper, coriander, nutmeg and fennel are also used, but they are slightly less common. The masala chai spices mixture are often infused with tea leaves to add a stronger flavor profile to the standard chai tea ingredients. While chai is most frequently blended with Assam black tea, it can also be found infused with green tea and oolong tea.

The two most important benefits of masala chai include enhancing the immune system and fighting inflammation. Masala tea has strong anti-oxidizing properties that prevent cancer. Spices like cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom all have the potential to prevent cancer.

Many spices are used in the making of this beverage, commonly called masala chai, with the most prominent one being ginger. As a result, masala tea has strong anti-inflammatory properties. The ginger makes the benefit by increases the saliva production which further helps digestion.

The cinnamon in masala chai may prevent hypertension, especially in people with diabetes. Research also indicates that people who drink several cups of black tea every day lower their blood pressure by several points.
